Camera Obscura: KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic Session, July 19, 2006

Good to know Camera Obscura is finally get some good attention in North America. Like most of us, this is one of the bands that Pitchfork brought into my life with their review of the fabulous Underachievers Please Try Harder. It's also great to see that many naysayers are finally abandoning the lazy Belle and Sebastian comparism, which wouldn't exactly be if they were not a Glasgow band.

Come Back Margaret
The False Contender
Teenager
Let's Get Out Of This Country
Interview
Tears For Affairs
Dory Previn

This band is amazing but it's not that lazy of a comparison-you can't say that they don't owe some debt to Stuart and mainly Isobel Campbell. To be fair they've gushed over and cited Belle & Sebastian as an influence in many an interview- prior to this new record- so it's not just people claiming it based on the location.

Great observation. I understand that B&S is an admitted influence, but most reviewers are always quick to talk about the similarities in the music of both bands without exploring in detail what makes CO unique. Stuart has even produced some songs I know, but it is the CO sounds like B&S reviews that put me off.
