Superwolf (Will Oldham & Matt Sweeney): Live, Moonshine Festival, Laguna Beach, CA, October 10, 2004

Fact: If I was keeping count, I'll probably have found by now that Will Oldham a.k.a. Bonnie 'Prince' Billy is one of the musicians I have featured the most on this blog.

Fact: Prior to the January 2005 release of Superwolf, the bloody terrific collaboration between Will Oldham and Matt Sweeney, these two super guys performed all the songs that were later to appear on that album live, as a duo called "Superwolf". Get it? Superwolf (band), Superwolf (album).

Fact: The whole Superwolf project arose from a songwriting challenge issued by Oldham to Sweeney.

Fact: I have the first of such live shows, as performed at the Moonshine Festival, Laguna Beach, Cally, on October 10, 2004. All songs on Superwolf are on the setlist, except "Goat and Ram".

Fact: You can claim you have a Superwolf live album now kids.

Fact: This is a sucky ass way to write a blog post. But it worked, didn't it?

If you read the post, dear anonymous, you'll see that this was performed live prior to the release of Superwolf, the album.

Not soundboard.

Evening sir. Strong work for posting the set and the blog in general. Just to say I think that the live Superwolf cover of Ignition (the one with Pink Nasty on it) doing the rounds on the blogs is from the same set - I've checked it the metadata and it reads as 'song 13' (ie. the last song after your posted set), the sound 'sounds' the same, it's been posted with the same date and it's certainly a encore pissabout. No blog to post my copy on but should be easy enough for completists to find. Were there other songs in the set? I shall stop typing and Google with extreme haste. Chin chin!

To Mike:

I too had a version of Ignition on my computer that said it was Superwolf on October 2004 (a certain track 13) with Pink Nasty on it, but I've tracked this version down to be from a concert on May 26th, 2004 in The Parish, Austin, TX. I found a bootleg of that concert and it tracks down to be the exact same version. It also turned out to be cut (at the end you can hear the first guitar notes of the next song), since on the concert it merged continuously in O Let It Be. It is the uptempo version of O Let It Be, like the one that can be heard on 2005's Summer In The Southeast.

Hope this was of any help.

By the way, I found the bootleg of The Parish in excellent sound quality on the amazing Palace Archive site that is http://pry.com/palace/music/

Ask for a login and password and Oldham walhalla should open to your ears.
