Boogie Nights: All About The Music

So I finally got around to seeing Boogie Nights, almost a decade after it hit the theatres. Can't really tell you why it took that long - but it probably had nothing to do with no one telling me Heather Graham was on roller skates for the whole 2.56 hours runtime of the movie, or that Bill Macy killed himself after killing her porn star wife, Nina Hartley, for donating the goods freely. Luckily for the world, I stumbled on the story on Wikipedia and decided this is a must see. Same day I discovered I had to read Catch 22 by Joseph Heller. Thanks Wiki.

Anyways, I saw this monster of a movie and found it interesting but not life-altering. Julianne Moore was particularly good - she was so porny I almost believed it. However, the really spectacular thing about the movie was the soundtrack. A complete throwback to the 70's and the disco revolution. Loved it so I quickly purchased Vols. 1 & 2. I recommend you do the same.

Some jams from Vol. 1:

Best Of My Love The Emotions
Jungle Fever Chakachas
Spill The Wine Eric Burdon & WAR
Got To Give It Up (Part 1) Marvin Gaye
Machine Gun The Commodores
Magnet & Steel Walter Egan
Sister Christian Night Ranger
Livin' Thing Electric Light Orchestra

Buy Vols. 1 & 2.

Hot Tip: For those of you who wonder how to play the music you find here, and who don't like having to do so through the fantastic Hype Machine, you may want to check out the spectacular new jukebox-browser mash-up called Songbird. Made for playing everything iTunes and other media players can play, plus the ability to convert music on webpages to playlists. Super fantastique!
