Wow, didn't notice that. Probably a joke - minors are barred from the Starlite anyway via membership rules.

Impressions of the show?

Worst show I ever went to. Blood Brothers were great - very tight sound, real amazing stage presence. Trail of Dead on the other hand, sucked. Reasons:
1. No songs from the new album. Who tours for an album and plays nothing from it? Not that I like the new one, So Divided, but I think it's essential you explore the sound live - perhaps then you could change a few minds.
2. They went back to their old catalogue...started with two songs off Source Tags, which was great, then it went downhill from there. They did a lot of the heavy sound, but there was no tune or feeling to it. Almost like hardcore punk by a bunch of amateurs. And that's one thing Trail of Dead isn't, which makes you wonder. Clearly, these guys have run out of ideas or are responding to critics.
3. Who plays a one-song encore? Fuck that.

I could go on. By the fourth song, I was dozing off. And at that time, Jason Reece was doing his best rock n'roll singer impression - riding the speakers, jumping and generally enjoying the bad music. Trail of Dead might be dead to me.

Harsh.

I thought they played a pretty tight set. I can agree that some of the antics were a little over the top, but it was a good solid rock show. Two highlites for me were Claire du Lune (haven't heard that in forever) and Caterwaul, because dammit, I wanted to rock.

Blood Brothers did nothing for me. That was their big chance to win me over as a fan and they blew it. Their disapointment must have been palpable. The best part of their set was when all the teenager's parents came to pickup them up, and I could get to the front of the stage without being jabbed in the eye by pointy emo hair.

Fair enough. Maybe moods and expectations have a lot to do with enjoyment of a live show. Interesting how we drew different conclusions.

Let's call it even and say it's not them, just us.

This Conrad interview says a lot about what Trail of Dead might be going through as a band right now.
