Say what you will about her, Yoko Ono's got groove. Shitloads of it in fact. Which is why I am definitely getting her upcoming remix album, Yes, I am a Witch. But that's not why I took some time off my Friday afternoon to write about Yoko - it is the badass remix of her orgasmic new wave song, "Kiss Kiss Kiss", that draws me nigh. Plus it's a collab with Peaches. Don't blame me, I haven't had this much excitement since Gunther touched our collective Tralala with the Ding Dong Song.
Amy Millan: KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic Session, Dec 7, 2006
The vivacious Amy Millan regales KCRW listeners with her fantastic voice in a fantastic set that includes two new songs and two covers. Plus she chats about running away from home, being depressed, the connection between Tom Waits and her album title (Honey From The Tombs) and working with Stars. Best enjoyed lying in bed with the lights turned low.
So I am looking around for Damien Rice stuff for my wife (who loves him) and I stumble on this supposedly rare limited edition live album on Amazon selling for $94.99 a cd. Is slowburn pop really worth this? The ebay lads seems to be kinder. Anyhow, found it in the usual places and thought I'll post two songs, for the heck of it. Enjoy.
Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Alex Neilson & Harem Scarem: Live, Queen's Hall, Edinburgh, 12 Apr 2006 (BBC Radio Scotland FM Broadcast)
Guaranteed to blow your mind as much as it blew mine, here's the epochal Bonnie "Prince" Billy in concert last year in Edinburgh, Scotland. BPB is joined by drummer Alex Neilson and Scottish folk/roots quintet, Harem Scarem (not to be confused by the Canadian Rock Band of the same name). Harem Scarem provide backing vocals and add a fantastic atmosphere to even those songs we swear by their original versions (e.g. I See A Darkness). This is the show as broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland, and this set raises the bar as far as live shows are concerned. Worthy of release as a live EP.
